1h1a0251.jpgCBC Fremantle students were called to think about how they can help make the world a better place, as part of this year's Ash Wednesday Liturgy.

The day marks the beginning of the Lenten season and calls on all Christians to make a conscious effort to think about their place in the world.

Our Faith and Mission Captain, Aiden Nigli, opened with an Acknowledgment of Country before asking the College community what we need to do in order to rise up to the many challenges that exist in today's world.

Reading from the Gospel, Father John Sebastian reminded students to ask God to open their hearts and minds to make the necessary changes needed in their lives.

After the Liturgy of the Word, Father Sebastian anointed members of the College Leadership Team with ashes, who in turn made the mark on Mentor teachers' foreheads.

They then repeated the symbolic gesture with the students in their Mentor Groups, in the same way as Catholics have done around the globe for centuries.

Mr Matthew Stockton then launched this year's Project Compassion fundraising campaign for Caritas. Service Captain, Xavier Brun, reminded his peers that even a small donation to the cause can make a world of difference to those supported by Caritas' work around the world.

Closing the assembly, Principal Mr Domenic Burgio asked all students to spend some time during the Lenten period reflecting on their place in the global community.

Ash Wednesday is one of the most important days on the Liturgical calendar and holds special significance at CBC Fremantle. The Lenten season encourages boys to develop two key qualities of the CBC gentleman: recognising and valuing the 'other' in his life, and being selfless by nature.
