A morning walk along the Swan River highlighted the very special bond shared by more than 250 CBC dads and adult mentors and their boys on Sunday.
The Share the Journey program is an important stage of the CBC journey, and recognises the crucial part male mentors have to play in the development of boys into adulthood.
Fathers, grandads and carers spent the morning's walk sharing stories of their past and delving into family history, relishing the undivided attention of the moment as the boys soaked it all up. The adults were also encouraged to talk about their boy's future, and the kind of man they would like them to become.
The group briefly rested at Bicton Quarantine Park, where they heard from the father of the 2019 College Captain, Alexander Buckland. Shane brought tears to a few eyes as he spoke about his relationship with his son and offered the advice to be father first and friend second.
After walking back to Point Walter, Alex then spoke to the group, sharing what he admires most about his father and some bonus tips for the years ahead.
Dads and carers then chose a quiet spot around the lake to affirm their love and support for their boys and presented them with a badge as a memento of the walk.
The morning wrapped up with a sausage sizzle prepared by Year 12 leaders and supervised by the Parent Auxiliary, who are the driving force behind the annual walk.
Share the Journey encourages fathers to spend quality time with their sons over the years ahead, where their support is crucial in their development into tomorrow's gentlemen. The College supports parents as the primary educators of their sons, and seeks ways to complement and deepen the special relationship.
