This year's Rite Journey program came to its conclusion for our Year 9 gentlemen with their Homecoming Ceremony yesterday evening.
At CBC, our rites of passage activities mark the evolution from child to adulthood, and the formal journey of the Class of 2026 commenced with the boys being symbolically handed over to their Rite Journey teachers in February.
Throughout the year, the boys have worked together with their teachers to reinforce attributes of positive masculinity, which form the foundation of the CBC gentleman.
Our developing young men have their achievements and self-growth honoured by their community to ensure a successful transition from child psychology to healthy adult psychology, and the Homecoming ceremony plays a major role in this process.
The evening commenced with the spectacular sight of more than 100 boys walking shoulder-to-shoulder along Attadale Reserve.
The moment symbolised the tight-knit bonds that have been forged amongst the young men in their Rite Journey classes over the year as they were challenged to step outside their comfort zones.
Standing proudly in front of their peers and family, each student was congratulated by their Rite Journey teacher for taking the important step towards becoming an adult before they joined their parents for the next part of the ceremony.
Our gentlemen and their parents then walked along the banks of the river to Dyoondalup (Point Walter). Each family took time to share a reflective moment together, and parents presented their sons with a letter of love and pride.
One parent quoted, "It was a beautiful evening. The weather was perfect, and it was wonderful to have our son 'returned to us' after his year participating in The Rite Journey. The symbolism of this event will hopefully have a lasting positive impact. We are grateful that CBC has a strong focus on boys' social and emotional development, with the Year 9 Rite Journey being a pivotal part of this."
The community then gathered a final time for a short liturgy overlooking the river. We were lucky enough to be joined for the Ceremony by TRJ Director, Mr Andrew Lines, who had spent much of the week working with our TRJ staff.
The program is a powerful component of the CBC journey and complements the College's other significant milestones on the development of our students' from today's boys into tomorrow's gentlemen.
