CBC Fremantle alumni from 1947 to 2021 gathered in the Cloisters for the All Ages Reunion and Alumni Awards held on Friday evening.
Hosted by the Alumni Association committee, the event attracted more than 120 Alumni who gathered in the Cloisters to celebrate their connection to one of the oldest schools in Western Australia and to acknowledge exceptional past students and staff.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Nic Watson (2017), announced the recipients of the Alumni Awards, an annual recognition of outstanding graduates who embody the qualities of the CBC gentleman and are making a real difference in the world in their fields of endeavour.
Alumni Committee Member, Carmelo Zagami (1987) awarded the Brother Patrick Kelly Award for Leadership to John Fiocco (1966) for his decades of service to the legal fraternity in Western Australia. Graduating from CBC in 1966, John has been a Barrister at Law with Fourth Floor Chambers since February 2017. He was admitted to practice in 1973 and admitted to the bar in 2017. John is a life member of the Law Society of WA and was Lawyer of the Year in 2015.
The Community Award acknowledges alumni who have demonstrated commitment to service in the community and made a significant positive impact through humanitarian and charitable endeavours.
A number of very worthy nominations were received this year, and two outstanding recipients were selected.
The first, Glen Power (1984) was the first CBC Alumni to re awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, and attended Oxford University. For the past 17 years Glen has been the CEO or general manager of hospitals and health services across Australia, and is currently the CEO of the WA Lions Eye Institute.
Michael Tunnecliffe (1966) has had a 35-year in education and psychology, working in mental health, prisons, juvenile justice, disability services and private practice. He moved to specialising in Crisis Intervention and Trauma Support, which included roles in the aftermath of the Port Arthur shooting, Thredbo Landslide, Bali Bombings and other disasters. He currently works with those in addiction treatment programs and assists parents who have teenage and young adult children affected by addiction.
Two Rising Star Awards were also presented to graduates who have demonstrated characteristics indicating future success and significant contributions in his field. This year Keane Bourke (2016) for his work in the journalism field; and Jordan Green (2014) for his contributions to the Australian Defence Force were both acknowledged.
Long time committee members Kevin O'Brien, Des Baccini and George Ayers were also thanked and acknowledged for their contributions.
Committee Chair Terry Ianello thanked all those for attending and encouraged all Alumni to consider joining the committee to ensure its longevity and relevance.
The evening was a particular highlight for the Classes of 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003 and 2013 who celebrated special significant anniversaries of their years spent at the College.
